Andrew Wiggins has allot to prove

Many sports writers and NBA scouts believe that Andrew Wiggins, the high school basketball star who recently committed to the University of Kansas could be the next Lebron James. Kansas has been great at recruiting high school basketball talent and it only get’s better. The 6ft. 7in 205lb have many anticipating his arrival not only to Kansas, but also what would be his eventual step up to the NBA shortly after that. Andrew Wiggins Named 2012-13 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year and one of high school basketball top ten recruits, has a great frame, footwork, and a great touch around the basket.

Wiggins who was born in Toronto, Ontario is the son of former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins who played for the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, and the Philadelphia 76ers scored over 3,877 points for his career. Mitchell Wiggins was also suspended for 2 1/2 years from the NBA for testing positive for cocaine. The Canadian born star has big shoes to fill when it comes to living up to the expected hype that will surround him for the rest of his career. Many will want to see Wiggins improve his shooting, get stronger, and work on his defense.

Most expect Andrew Wiggins to spend one to two years at Kansas, before he is projected to take his talents to the NBA. And who will waiting for him, the four time M.V.P. Lebron James. James knows all about the pressure of being the next great thing in basketball. James who was drafted in 2003 and labeled the “next Michael Jordan” when he entered the league. While Lebron James has had a remarkable career so far, it is unfair to label players in that manner. Each player has there own game, strengths, and weaknesses. The game is all ways changing and the players change along with it. Because the NBA game has so few great players, it is so easy to look to the past as a way of identifying a players game. Imagine calling Michael Jordan the next DR. J it just does not fit.

My message to Andrew Wiggins is to try to make your own statement. The reason that players like Michael Jordan and Lebron James are so great is because the work extremely hard on their games. They practice every situation and push themselves to the limit. The two push their teammates to play harder, and at the end of the game they want the ball in the hands. Andrew good luck in the future and make a name for yourself.
